Bashford Name

The Bashfords have lived in the Worthing, Sussex area for a very long time.  In the past they were often fishermen or associated with the fish trade and the sea and consequently very poor. Some of the more  prosperous family members were nurserymen and smallholders.  Reseach into the Bashfords has been hampered by the lack of  official records of the birth of James ~ 1847 and  George Bashford ~ 1850 to their mother Jane. Father(s)  unknown.  James is recorded as being born in either Emsworth Hampshire or Worthing. George is recorded as being born in Mill(w?)Hall, Middlesex, Croydon or Kingston on Thames.

Stringers

The Stringers lived  in Sussex, in and  around Thakeham, Storrington, West Grinstead and Shipley. They were agricultural labourers, gardeners, cobblers,  soldiers  or leterly an  electrical linesman.
